Literacy

ReadyGEN

  • This program is designed for college and career readiness. ReadyGEN also incorporates student-centered instruction.
  •  Grades 3-5 include 4 units with two modules per unit.
  • Each unit has a science or social studies theme and focuses on a variety of reading and writing skills.
  • Each module has a performance based assessment at the end for students to have an opportunity to demonstrate an understanding of the skills for that unit.
  • Each unit has an assessment that will focus on increased comprehension and text complexity over the course of the school year.

  • Balance of informational text and literature.

  • Complexity of text – whole class reads/discusses text together, then in small breakout groups, students will receive reinforcement and extended lessons as needed. (These breakout groups can change on a daily basis.)
  • Balance with writing that is linked directly with the day’s reading. “Let’s write like the author.”
  • Knowledge of other disciplines—the text pieces incorporate social studies and science topics within the reading.
  • Word power—Tier One, Two, and Three vocabulary includes academic and domain specific vocabulary.
